Volunteering with the Best Defense Foundation
I have had the honor of guiding thousands of visitors around my beloved Normandy. Travelers primarily from the USA, but also from the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and many other Countries.

I've toured with young children, teenagers, retired couples and even WWII veterans - people of all ages and from all walks of life, and with whom I have often forged long-lasting friendships. You can view some of my testimonials on Trip Advisor see them here.

Here are just a few of the kind things, just some of my previous clients have said about their time with me on the DDay Beaches. To respect their privacy, I have not included the names of the clients.
Magali and showed us so much more than D-Day sights, they shared how June 1944 affected the people of Normandy, including their own family. It is sobering to comprehend the sacrifices of both the liberating troops, but also those for whom Normandy was home. Magali planned with our input and requests, and customized our second trip to Normandy. Thoroughly enjoyed our day, just as she is thorough with answers to our questions. We finished with the American Cemetery, present for the lowering of the flag with the playing of taps, the Kleenex in my pocket was needed.

Magali was everything we would have wanted in a guide of this historic site and more. Her husband is a first-class historian from Britain and Magali was born and grew up in these French villages. Her mother was a young girl during the time of the invasion and experienced D-Day firsthand. Thus our tour not was only factual, but intimate and personal bringing to life not only the big picture of the invasion, but the complexities of emotion on both sides. Our first stop was a German cemetery. As we entered we noticed an elderly German woman, flower in hand and tears in her eyes. Magali was deeply moved seeing the sorrow in the woman's eyes. Every stop brought similar experiences, allowing us to, in some measure, enter into the reality of these events, from the horrors at Omaha beach and the interior of the pill boxes, to the utterly impenetrable hedge rows in the fields. Our day ended listening to taps at American cemetery, which brought everyone's emotions to the surface as we contemplated the tremendous cost and incalculable value of freedom, not to mention we will never forget Magali, our new friend. Merci beaucoup, Magali!

We wished we could have had more time than just one day with her. She was fun to be with, very patient, understanding and very clear with everything she had to say. This tour was one of the highlight of our time in France. Not sure if there would be anyone any better than Mag was."

We hired Magali Desquesne for an all day tour to be where my father was on D-Day June 6, 1944 in Normandy. Mag was wonderful and so knowledgeable. She explained what he would have experienced those days while in Normandy. I would recommend her to anyone that is interested in knowing more about that day in history. Seeing where my Dad was brought tears to my eyes and warmed my heart to know what ALL of these soldiers sacrificed. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you, Mag, from the bottom of my heart."

Mag gives a rich and thorough tour of the DDay sites. Her family is from the area and lived through the experience. We found her stories captivating and she really brought the war to life for us."

While she definitely knows and imparted the tactical aspects of the D-Day invasion, Mag also brought forward the humanistic perspective on all sides. She offers great balance of lecture, discussion, alone time to wander and reflect, museum-ing and feet-on-the-ground beach time. With Mag's two-day tour we got a comprehensive, solid and clear overview--everything we needed to continue exploring on our own afterwards. We greatly appreciated Mag's honor, gentle humor and human compassion as she shared with us her numerous D-Day stories and insights. A fantastic tour guide find!"

Mag really made the tour the big success that it was. Her knowledge and upbeat personality kept our interest 100%. I'm well informed on military history and D Day in particular, but she added a great deal to that knowledge. The tour itself was absolutely superb. I never expected to experience so much with such an informed and personable guide."

Mag was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. Her family is from Normandy and she was able to share many personal experiences. My father landed on Omaha beach - Mag researched his experience and took us to the exact sector of the beach on which he landed."

Our tour guide Mag was absolutely wonderful. The father of one of the ladies on our tour had taken part in the U.S. invasion on D-Day, but she had only limited information about his role. Mag took that info and researched it right away. We wound up going to see a monument dedicated to his landing ship - which brought tears to many eyes. Mag is knowledgeable, personable and a wonderful host."

We had Meg as our tour guide. She spoke excellent English, but gave a French perspective about her family during WWII. We visited Pointe Du Hoc; Omaha Beach and the American cemetery. A very informative, emotionally powerful tour."

Magali gives you both the military history and the impact it had on the people of the area and provides insight about the events in June of 1944"

Mag comes from a Normandy family who have been in the area for generations and she is very professional as a guide and extremely well versed on the invasion."
